For my daughters fourth birthday I decided to do something really special and makeover a 60-year-old barbie house. This barbie house was built by my grandfather for my mom when she was little. Then he fixed it up for me and my sister when we were little. Now that we are all grown up with kids of our own it was time to pass it along to the next generation. My sister has 2 boys so that meant it was my girls turn to enjoy this special house.
After being in my parent’s attic for 30 years it was not exactly in the best shape. But I was thrilled to give this barbie house the makeover it deserved. I spent hours every night for a few weeks after the girls went to bed working on it to surprise her.
My mom had saved all the barbie furniture as well so after some paint I was able to reuse it all.
After some fresh paint, some contact paper as floors, and scrap book paper as wallpaper it was looking good as new…well really it was better than new!
Everything that I used(except the furniture) is from the doll house section of hobby lobby and amazon.
The hardwood flooring is contact paper from amazon.
The brick floor and bathroom tile are both from the doll house section at hobby lobby. It comes in sheets and I used modge podge to install.
The walls are all scrap book paper with a layer of modge podge underneath them and on top for protection.
This was so much fun for me to do! Truly one of my favorite projects to date! Not to mention it really is therapeutic! I now understand dollhouse therapy!
